They say that after the conversion, people who receive only basic cable will not be able to receive any channels at all without this adapter (or switching to a set-top box). They are offering an adapter (assuming they mean digital-to-analog) designed to be used for analog TV's that are hooked up to their basic service, not utilizing a cable box. I just received notification from Verizon that their Fios service was beginning the switch to all digital beginning in June. I am now able to utilize the second Tivo analog tuner with a split from the coaxial cable from the cable source. There is NO way to get digital cable channels on the DT TiVo's second tuner.Ĭlick to expand.I have a Series 2 DT which I have set up with Verizon Fios and a Verizon Cable Box. (The DT TiVos aren't for any type of Over The Air television, by the way. If digital cable is all your cable company is providing, your second TiVo tuner will not work. If you got such a new TiVo it would replace your current one, not work with it.)Ī current Dual Tuner Series 2 TiVo can only get digital cable thru a cable box, and it only works with one cable box at a time.

(An example of such a box that you own would be a TiVo HD or Series 3 TiVo. You'd have to rent the cable cards from the cable company for a monthly fee.

The only way to get digital cable on an analog TV is to use a cable box provided by the cable company (which your TiVo will likely be able to control already), or some other type of box (that you own) that takes "cable cards". (So far we've heard of no such converter boxes that can also tune digital cable channels, which are different from OverTheAir digital channels.) They're only for Over The Air television broadcasts. The boxes currently sold in stores will probably not work with digital cable.
